A 2-day workshop series by Research Project Area A.2.
IntCDC Event

We are happy to announce that Research Project Area A.2 is organizing a two-part workshop on optimization methods in civil engineering.

Abstract: An efficient allocation of resources is one of the key aspects of the engineering profession. For structural problems this might translate into minimizing the material usage subject to given manufacturing or acoustic constraints. Although optimization problems in different fields might be completely different, the general methods to solve them are shared across different disciplines. This series of presentations serves as an introduction to the concept of optimization in engineering and its practical applications. The first part "Introduction to Simulation and Optimization in Civil Engineering" will focus in exploring the key elements of an optimization problem and will present examples that can be solved with a dedicated software solution. The second part "Black-Box Optimization for Architects and Engineers" introduces the concept of "black-box optimization" and considers a practical part where the attendees will learn how to solve diverse problems with this approach.

Part 1 will take place on 14th of February  2022,  1:00 – 5:00 pm
Presentation by Jan Grasmannsdorf (Altair)
Titel: "Introduction to Simulation and Optimization in Civil Engineering"
Format: Hybrid

Part II will take place on 17th of February 2022, 1:00 – 5:00 pm
Presentation by Prof. Thomas Wortmann
Titel: "Black-Box Optimization for Architects and Engineers"
Format: in presence
Participation in Part II is only possible if Part I has also been attended.

Attendance for the in-person session is limited to 15-20 people (online attendance at Part I on 2/14 may be possible for more people).Members of RPA A.2 who register are guaranteed access, the remaining seats will be randomly drawn from the registrations received.

The exact location and the Webex link to the event on 2/14 will be announced after registration.

Please register via email to Karolin Tampe-Mai and indicate if you would like to attend only on 2/14 or both days.
