INTEGRATIVE MATERIAL AND GEOMETRY ENRICHMENT FOR THE EXISTING BUILDING STOCK WITHIN HBIM
In Europe, design and construction within the existing building stock (EBS) are of crucial importance for climate-positive transformation and circular, life-cycle engineering. The basis for extending the EBS is the acquisition of the as-built state. This encompasses geometry, material characteristics, and the identification of structural elements. Acquiring and analyzing the interior beyond exterior geometry is very important. The project will integrate digital geometry surveys, non-destructive testing methods, quality assessment methods, and historical information into Historic Building Information Modeling (HBIM). We will focus on the European post-war building boom (1949-1978). The technical, structural, and material technological innovations of these years are significant for their historical value. Knowledge of materials and construction is fundamental for decision-making (e.g., renovations, conversions, or additions to the EBS, the reuse of components). This leads to a focus on structural building materials, particularly reinforced and prestressed concrete, steel construction, and brickwork. We aim to automate the combination of point-wise and area-wise acquisition methods. For efficient data acquisition, the project will develop autonomous robotic strategies for sensor deployment and measurement execution. Accurate point-wise methods can be used for quality control or even as a calibration measurement for area-wise methods. Historical information on structural behavior will be combined with acquired geometry and material characteristics to derive structural analysis statements.
