ADVANCING GREEN DEAL PRINCIPLES IN SMART FACADE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE CONSTRUTION SECTOR BASED ON AI, DATA & ROBOTICS (AMALTEA)

This project aims to transform the construction sector by integrating robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and data to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and safety while improving the reliability and quality of curtain-wall façade elements. Therefore, the façade value chain will be re-shaped by the digitalization of its design, manufacturing, installation, and disassembly/recycling phases.

The project will develop an AI-enhanced parametric design tool to streamline the identification of critical simulation parameters for sustainability, thermal performance, and mechanical integrity. By leveraging surrogate models and multi-objective optimization algorithms, this tool will reduce computational time while delivering precise and sustainable designs. Additionally, a digital twin of the façade value chain will dynamically adapt material choices and design solutions to meet the evolving demands of construction companies and comply with national energy efficiency and sustainability standards. The digital twin, connected through gateways using communication protocols and REST APIs, will enable seamless integration with other AMALTEA components, providing real-time monitoring and enhancing efficiency across the entire value chain. These innovations will ensure the project delivers scalable, adaptable, and sustainable solutions in line with the Green Deal objectives, setting a new benchmark for the construction industry.

Funded by Horizon Europe, the project’s solutions will be validated in large-scale pilots, including an industrial façade manufacturing site and two real-world deployments: a residential/hospital in Southern Europe and an office/tertiary building in Central Europe. These pilots will also provide comprehensive digital validation of the entire value chain, ensuring adaptability, safety, and environmental compliance.

The project is coordinated by Mr. Julen Astudillo from Fundacion Tecnalia Research & Innovation.
