The Cluster of Excellence IntCDC is excited to welcome our new Participating Researcher Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab

Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab who joined IntCDC in May 2021, established together with Prof. Wortmann in the new research project „Knowledge Representation for Multi-disciplinary Co-design of Buildings“ (RP 20). Building on and extending his research on ontological foundations and semantic reasoning approaches, Staab targets the bridging of development processes that gravitates around a common core - the design and construction of buildings - but that diverges according to the perspectives, needs and activities of involved designers and constructors.

Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab studied computer science and computational linguistics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Pennsylvania. He received his PhD from the University of Freiburg on the extraction of knowledge from texts and his habilitation from the University of Karlsruhe on topics of knowledge management. From 2004 to 2020, Prof. Staab held a professorship for databases and information systems at the University in Koblenz, where he founded the Institute for Web Science and Technologies. In February 2020, Prof. Staab moved to the University of Stuttgart to establish a new Institute for Artificial Intelligence as part of his Cyber Valley Endowed Chair for Analytic Computing. Since March 2015, Staab also holds a chair in Web and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK. Staab is a Fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence and a 2018 Academy Laureate of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. At the University of Stuttgart, Staab is co-spokesperson of the Interchange Forum for Reflecting on Intelligent Systems (Stuttgart Research Focus IRIS).
