The Girls' Day is an initiative to motivate schoolgirls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) by giving them the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in these fields.

We had the pleasure of hosting a workshop on "Material Science meets Furniture Design" for Girls' Day 2024! Twelve participating girls, grades 7-10, explored the computational design and fabrication of self-shaping furniture with us.

In the workshop, each participant gained hands-on experience in designing her own ideas of self-shaping furniture by using the computational design tools developed by ICD. Then, they prototyped and fabricated their unique designs using the hygromorphic properties of wood.

Thanks to Ekin Sila Sahin, Laura Kiesewetter, and Tiffany Cheng from the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) for this great initiative!

We look forward to seeing you again next year!
