SUMMARY:Girls' Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:What do Strelitzia reginae, Aldrovanda vesiculosa, and Coleoptera coccinellidae have to do with sustainable, responsive architecture? Quite a lot—as Girls' Day on April 3, 2025, at the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture” (IntCDC) impressively demonstrated.\nGirls' Day at IntCDC was much more than just an orientation day—it was a real step toward getting more young people into STEM fields. Because scientific excellence needs diversity—and new ways of looking at how we build our world.\nThe next Girls' Day will take place on April 23, 2026 – we look forward to inspiring young talents for research and design again next year.\n \n\nThe Girls' Day is an initiative to motivate schoolgirls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) by giving them the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in these fields. The Cluster of Excellence IntCDC, together with the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design ITKE and Institute for Textile and Fiber Technologies offered the follwoing workshop held bilingual in German and English:\nTwist & Bend: Creating Responsive Buildings with Nature / Von der Natur inspirierte reaktionsfähige Fassaden\nled by Edith Anahi Gonzalez (ITKE), Hastia Asadi (ITKE), Matthias Ridder (ITFT)\n\nDid you know that building facades can move? Explore the fascinating world of adaptive façade design inspired by nature! In this hands-on workshop, you will discover how nature’s ingenious solutions - like the bending of leaves or the unfolding of insect wings - can inspire dynamic architectural elements. By designing and building your own adaptive sculpture that can change shape just like nature does, you will learn how to harness material deformation to create responsive elements that can adjust to changing conditions. Join us to design innovative responsive components that blend nature’s adaptability with modern engineering, bringing ecological design concepts to life!\n \n\n \nNo prior experience is required, and all necessary materials and equipment will be provided. Join us for a playful dive into the world where nature meets architecture—and see how your ideas can help shape the buildings of the future.\nMore information about the Girls' Day can be found here.\n
