SUMMARY:IntCDC Constructive Conversations // Speculative Design Futures in Construction
DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to welcome Associated Prof. AnnaLisa Meyboom from the University of British Columbia, Canada, to our upcoming Constructive Conversations event on Monday, 14 April 2024 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.\nAnnaLisa Meyboom will give a lecture on “Speculative Design Futures in Construction”.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nTopic:\n\n\nSpeculative Design Futures in Construction\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker:\n\n\nAssociated Prof. AnnaLisa MeyboomSchool of Architecture and Landscape ArchitectureUniversity of British Columbia, Canada\n\n\n\n\nDate:\n\n\nMonday, 14 April 2025 | 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.\n\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\n\nKeplerstraße 11, 70174 Stuttgart, room tba\n\n\n\n\nWebex-Link:\n\n\nThis lecture is part of the AdvanceAEC partner seminar series. A link for online participation will follow.\n \nAbstract\nArchitecture translates culture into built form. Technology is providing designers with bionic abilities in both design and construction. The important question becomes what and how should we build? What opportunities do these abilities present and how should they be used to transform our built environment? Speculative futures created by designers are powerful and allow society to see possible outcomes and the potential of new technologies. The academy also plays a crucial role by pushing boundaries and demonstrating potential. This talk will present explorations in speculative design futures both for the future of wood and our city infrastructure.\n\nBio\nAnnaLisa Meyboom is visiting us from the University of British Columbia, (Vancouver/ Canada), where she is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Her research focuses on the intersection of design, technology, and the environment, particularly in the areas of advanced architectural design processes and robotic fabrication of wood, and urban informatics and future infrastructures.\nAnnaLisa has a Masters in Architecture from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo. She has been a visiting professor, lecturer and invited critic at a number of universities, including the University of Toronto, Harvard University, University of Virginia, South-East University in China, and the University of Calgary. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and workshops and has published in several journals and books. She has authored two books – “Driverless Urban Futures” and “Design Capital: The Hidden Value of Design in Infrastructures.”\nAnnaLisa is an active member of the academic and design community. She is a registered architect and registered engineer and has worked on a range of speculative and realized projects both in engineering and architecture, from small-scale residential to bridges and large-scale urban design. She teaches research studios, design-build classes, advanced structures and computing seminars, architectural structures courses, and robotic fabrication seminars, as well as architectural thesis students.\n
