SUMMARY:IntCDC Career Talk with Karola Dierichs
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp;\nIntCDC Early Career Talks bring together early career researchers with IntCDC alumni to share insights on possible career paths in an informal setting. Each talk focuses on a specific career field and connects our researchers with alumni who share their experiences of working successfully in this area.\nWe are pleased to offer an IntCDC Career Talk with Professor Karola Dierichs, Cluster Professor “Material and Code” at the Matters of Activity (MoA) Cluster of Excellence, Weissensee School of Art and Design Berlin, at our 2023 Status Seminar on 17 November.\nKarola Dierichs is an architect. She holds the Cluster Professorship “Material and Code” and was previously a Research Associate at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) within IntCDC. She received her doctoral degree with distinction from the University of Stuttgart.\nAt the ICD, she has conducted research on Granular Architectures, where she has developed designed granular materials in architecture. She has been engaged in transdisciplinary research in national and international collaborations, including with the Institute for Multiscale Simulation (MSS) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, the Jaeger Lab at the University of Chicago and the Behringer Lab at Duke University.\nHer research has been published and exhibited internationally and has won several awards.\nHer key research fields: Material aisthesis, materials design, new media and technologies in architectural design, ecological design\nIn her Career Talk, Karola shared her career journey, talked about career opportunities and planning, and gave tips for the next career steps for the participants, focusing on their questions and needs regarding publishing, exhibiting, teaching and their expected career paths.\n\nKarola also gave a lecture in the series IntCDC Constructive Conversations entitled Cultures of Creation: “The Intelligence of Art” in Computational Design.
