DESCRIPTION:&nbsp;\nIn the newly established IntCDC Constructive Conversations, the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture” hosts renowned national and international scientists and industry experts to speak on current topics and challenges in the field of IntCDC.\nWe are very happy to present Prof. Dr. Hans-Berndt Neuner, who will talk about geometric data acquisition, and its relevance for robotics, civil engineering and architecture.\nComponents for a Robot-Aided and Space-Continuous Geometric Acquisition\nProf. Dr. Hans-Berndt Neuner, Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation, TU Wien4 February 2021, 4:00 pm\nThe employment of robots in manufacturing processes in mechanical and civil engineering is continuously increasing. In engineering geodesy, robotic automatic measuring systems have been successfully used for the geometric acquisition and monitoring of measurement objects for decades. Nevertheless, the interaction of our discipline with the above-mentioned fields, and especially the integration of engineering geodetic activities into the corresponding superordinated processes, results in numerous challenges. Three of these challenges will be discussed in detail in the presentation and conceptual solutions will be presented based on the research activities of the Department of Engineering Geodesy at the TU Wien. In the first part, an approach for the absolute calibration of robot arms is presented, which is based on measurement procedures of industrial surveying and machine learning methods. Subsequently, the effect of the measurement configuration and material properties on reflectorless distance measurement in terrestrial laser scanning is investigated using a robot arm. Finally, a space-continuous approach for the modelling of point clouds of free-form surfaces and the derivation of deformations is discussed.\n\nProf. Dr. Hans-Berndt Neuner studied Geodesy at the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, Romania. Afterwards he worked at the Geodetic Institute at the Leibniz University of Hannover, where he also received his doctoral degree in Engineering Geodesy for his thesis “Modelling and Analysis of Non-Stationary Deformation Processes.” Since 2013 he is Professor for Engineering Geodesy at the TU Wien, Austria.
