The Cluster of Excellence IntCDC is very delighted to welcome our new Principal Investigator Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lucio Blandini

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lucio Blandini, who joined IntCDC in May 2021, is an prestigious engineer and architect with a special interest for sustainable lightweight systems and the relationship between architecture, engineering and technology. Since 2020 he has been the new head of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart, where he had obtained 15 years before his PhD with the design and development of the Stuttgart Glass Shell, a filigree glass-only shell structure. He is one of the directors of the SFB 1244 with a focus on adaptive skins and structures. Within IntCDC Prof. Blandini investigates the potential of light concrete structures along the chain from design to construction and he is in charge of the integration of graded concrete systems in the demonstrator building.

He has spent several years in the praxis, focusing on innovative facades and light structures. Projects as the Ferrari Museum in Modena, the railway Station Stuttgart 21, the House of European History in Brussels and the Terminal 2 at Kuwait International Airport, show how a creative use of digital tools and an integral approach to planning can lead to beautiful and efficient architectures.

Prof. Blandini greatly supports research at IntCDC with his excellence in the research projects "Functionally Graded Concrete Building System" (RP 1) and "Cyber-Physical Fabrication of Functionally Graded Concrete" (RP 2)

A very warm welcome to Prof. Blandini!
