We are delighted to announce that Thomas Wortmann, who joined the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC as a Tenure-Track Cluster Professor in 2020, has been appointed as a Full Professor of Computing in Architecture at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart.

His research focuses on developing computational design methods to support the creation of buildings that are both energy and resource efficient.

He states: “Given increasing global challenges and the rise of deep learning in the last decade, research into computing, and especially AI, to make architecture, engineering, and construction more productive and sustainable and the associated technologies more human-centric is more important than ever. I’m looking forward to exploring AI-based building design generation, robot-robot and robot-human collaboration, and more in the new phase of the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC. IntCDC allows me to pursue this research in collaboration with excellent colleagues from a wide range of other disciplines including engineering, computer, and social science. IntCDC also is closely related to our Integrative Technologies & Architectural Design Research M.Sc. program (ITECH), where I teach related subjects such as machine and deep learning for the built environment.”

We look forward to Thomas continuing to contribute excellent research to IntCDC as Principal Investigator of the Cluster of Excellence during its second funding period, from 2026 to 2032.
