Interview: IBA’27 Director Andreas Hofer in Conversation with Prof. Achim Menges
Construction has begun on an extraordinary new building on the University of Stuttgart’s Vaihingen campus, which brings workshops, laboratories, and offices together under one roof, dissolving the traditional boundaries between theoretical and empirical research, experimentation, and construction. At the same time, it serves as a showcase for the integration of cluster’s research in the building’s design, fabrication, construction and structure.
The building has been part of the IBA’27 project portfolio since 2024. To mark the start of construction, IBA’27 Director Andreas Hofer interviewed Prof. Achim Menges, spokesperson for the IntCDC Cluster of Excellence, to discuss the vision behind the project, its research ambitions, and its significance for the future of sustainable and digitally driven building practices.
