On May 18th, our PhD researcher Shermin Sherkat from ICD/CA delivered an online lecture at the Universität Innsbruck as part of the "Struktur und computerbasierte Gestaltung" lecture series.
The lecture, "From Design to Construction: Can Robots Build Your Design Autonomously? – Automating Robotic Task and Motion Planning with AI and Software Engineering", explored how advanced AI methods, particularly Behaviour Trees, can support the automation of robotic construction directly from building designs.
The presentation addressed technical challenges that often limit the adoption of AI-driven tools in practice and demonstrated how software engineering principles can help overcome these barriers, making AI tools more accessible, reliable, and easier to apply in real-world construction workflows. The talk further highlighted approaches for automating robotic task and motion planning, contributing to more seamless design-to-construction processes.
We would like to thank Chieh-Hsuan Chen and Robert Neumayr-Beelitz for the invitation and for organising the lecture series. We greatly appreciated the opportunity to share our research and engage in discussions on the future of AI, robotics, and digital construction.
