What happens when ethnographers turn their attention to the futures of work, construction, and emerging technologies?

In the first week of May, the SoWi research team explored exactly this question together with Laureate Professor Sarah Pink, an IntCDC Visiting Professor from Monash University in Australia. The workshop focused on the complex configurations of people, technologies, and organizations — and on how improvisations, failures, or fragmented organizational structures can reshape feelings of trust and safety.

A particular highlight was Sarah Pink’s approach to combining different social science methods and scaling them beyond individual projects, opening up new perspectives for collaborative research.

The inspiring week also included a visit to the ZKM exhibition “Histories of Futures” and concluded with the event “Next Frontiers” featuring Maarten Hajer and Jeroen Oomen.

How can we ethnographically study futures that are still emerging? This workshop offered some fascinating answers — and even more exciting new questions.

Sarah Pink's visit ended with an IntCDC seminar, 'Early Career Meets Visiting Professor', which gave Early Career Researchers from the Cluster the valuable opportunity to discuss their project ideas and career prospects with her.
