On 16 September, IntCDC partcipating researcher Buse Aktaş (Max-Planck-Institute for Intelligent Systems) was one of four outstanding young female scientists to receive the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award.
L’Oréal, the German National Commission for UNESCO and the German Humboldt Network honoured Buse Aktaş, Dorit Brixius, Mansi Singh and Anna Zieleniewska with the award in recognition of their exceptional research contributions. The award ceremony took place at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and was hosted by Arabella Kiesbauer.
Buse Aktaş conducts research on multipurpose materials at the intersection of mechanics, robotics and materials science. She develops materials that can be transformed from a flexible state to a stable state through pressure. This enables components to serve as soft robotic fingers or rigid load-bearing supports, thereby conserving valuable resources. Furthermore she's involved in IntCDC's Research Project RP 39-1 on Passive Jamming via 4D Printing for Circular Architecture.
