Our ViNe networking programme aims to promote mutual acquaintance, interdisciplinary exchange and cross-disciplinary understanding between researchers from eighteen institutes at the University of Stuttgart and one MPI Department, encompassing architecture, structural engineering, building physics, engineering geodesy, manufacturing and systems engineering, computer science and robotics, as well as human and social sciences.
This time, we will visit the exhibition: "Angela Glajcar. Not a cruise, a crossing" at the Stihl Gallery in Waiblingen, where we will meet the artist, get a guided tour, explore the monumental paper installations of Angela Glajcar, and engage in a dialogue about space, spatial perception and how the material of paper enables the viewer to experience space.
"We are constantly, unconsciously, aware of space. We rarely talk about the effect that space and its atmosphere have on us, but we react to it intuitively. This unconscious effect of space is deeply rooted within us, and sculpture, as a language of space, translates this into something visible."
Angela Glajcar

Angela Glajcar trained as a sculptor at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Nuremberg where she was a Master Student of Tim Scott.
Angela was a visiting professor for sculpture at the University of Gießen and won several awards, as the Emy Roeder and the Phoenix Art Award and currently the Scholarship Drawing and Paper Art Waiblingen, where she also holds the Mentorship Drawing and Paper Art.
Initially, she used paper as a preliminary sketch for her heavy sculptures made of wood and metal. Over the course of her career, she discovered the previously hidden sculptural possibilities of paper – a fragile, two-dimensional material – and developed the impressive art of paper sculpture.
