We are pleased to offer all early career researchers the opportunity to engage in an open exchange of experiences with our visiting Professor Hannah Stuart, who is visiting us from the University of California, Berkley, where she is Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and holds the Don M. Cunningham Endowed Professorship in Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Stuart's research interests include: Dexterous manipulation; Bio-inspired design; Soft and multi-material mechanisms; Skin contact conditions; Tactile sensing and haptics.
Her research group is interested in improving robot dexterity with embodied intelligence by studying and designing for the non-idealities of real-world contact, especially for unstructured environments. This includes the design of (1) novel grippers and hands, (2) touch perception for autonomous interventions and (3) bio-inspired manipulation strategies. This vision includes the advancement of relevant design analysis tools and the validation of concepts by applying technologies in the field.
In this interdisciplinary seminar, Professor Stuart will briefly present aspects of her work, but the focus will be on the questions and issues raised by you, the EC participants in this seminar. Each of you will give a 5-minute presentation of your work (at the level you are at). You will have the opportunity to discuss issues related to your own doctoral or postdoctoral research with Professor Stuart in an informal setting.
You can also discuss career issues, such as better understanding opportunities in the United States, and benefit from Professor Stuart's experience. This can also be a starting point for bilateral discussions at a later date.
